A Statement by Muslim Futures
on the Morocco and Libya emergencies.
Tragedy and devastation has wrecked a trail across North Africa in recent weeks, the likes of which we have rarely seen before.
Muslim Futures is committed to doing EVERYTHING we can to support the people and communities affected by these tragedies.
In Morocco, weeks after the devastating earthquake on September 8th 2023, the authorities have officially reported 3,000 fatalities and over 5,600 injured, with the number of casualties continually rising. Some of the affected villages have been completely flattened, with whole families wiped out and thousands displaced from their homes.
Muslim Futures, through the efforts of its supporters and donors is working closely with our UK partners who have travelled quickly to the devastated regions to support the local humanitarian organisations, in coordination with the Moroccan authorities.
Thanks to your generous support, each day we are helping them to distribute mattresses, blankets, hygiene kits, water, emergency food meals and packs to survivors in remote mountainous areas. Our local partners continue to work against the clock to identify the worst affected areas, where we can deliver your kindness and support.
Our trusted partners with their local colleagues are on the ground, working in Morocco and Libya against the clock.
In eastern Libya, the death toll from devastating flooding is expected to rise as more bodies are being retrieved in the city of Derna. Described by the UN as collision of climate and capacity, reports suggest over 6000 people have lost their lives, with more than 10,000 reported missing.
Muslim Futures, whilst it does not have direct partner representation in Libya, stands with the Libyan people and the disaster-stricken communities affected by this tragedy. If you wish to donate to help the people of Libya, Muslim Futures will promptly distribute your support to our Partner teams currently engaging in the relief effort, like Libyan Helping Hands, One Nation and MATW.
“Those who are merciful will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on the earth and the One above the heavens will have mercy upon you.” (as narrated by Al-Tirmidhi)
