Honour your obligation to feed the poor.

Zakat-ul-Fitr, (also known as Fitrana, Fitrah or Sadaqah-ul-Fitr), is a form of charity given to the poor at the end of the blessed month of Ramadan. It is

  • due on every member of a household, including any children or elderly.
  • obligatory to pay prior to commencement of Eid-ul-Fitr salah.
  • calculated at the average price of a meal.
  • used to provide food for the vulnerable.

Every Muslim must pay Zakat-ul- Fitr regardless of their age or financial status unless they honestly do not have the means to do so. The head of a family normally pays for all members of his or her household. It was narrated in the Hadith,

Charity does not, in any way, decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect; and the one who shows humility, Allah elevates him in the estimation [of the people].  (Sahih Muslim)
